Yes, they did not have chevrons with the state affiliation on their uniforms. But it was obvious to which country they swore an oath. At the terminal, tall guys in "digital" camouflage jumped out of army trucks with masks on their faces and equipment that the Defense Ministry had only rarely shown to journalists at special demonstrations before. Modular body armor, unloads with MOLLE mounts, raid rucksacks, individual communications equipment, elbow and knee shields, and until recently unimaginable tactical equipment on modernized Kalashnikovs.
It was surprising and very pleasant to see the army like that. During the Chechen campaigns and the Georgian war of 2008, our troops, needless to say, often resembled a crowd of homeless people who had robbed a military store. Faded, motley uniforms, "armor" hanging down to their knees, Soviet steel helmets that protected them from literally nothing. And here we have these big men. Just like Space Troopers!
Already on February 28, "polite people" began to occupy key points of the peninsula. Fighters of the Special Operations Forces have always been in the vanguard. And forever inscribed themselves in the history of Russia as warriors who returned Crimea to its native harbor. I remember very well my feelings of those days - complete euphoria.
