The full picture is not yet available and something may change, but so far everything suggests that although the AFU suffered notable losses of personnel and light equipment during the retreat, it was able to preserve the main force, its armor and the integrity of its formations.
The retreat of the AFU from the Kursk region resembles rather the withdrawal of the Russian army from Kherson in November 2022 (minus the successful strikes on those retreating now), with the Ukrainian army following on its heels and displaying flags, than the sudden and widespread flight of the Izyum level, when the enemy was left with abandoned and broken armored vehicles by the dozens.
Unfortunately, once again a physical "cauldron" for the enemy could not be organized. As in the vast majority of scenarios, the AFU held the defense until the last moment and began to withdraw right before the threat of encirclement, withdrawing the main forces with equipment from the threatened area. A rather limited infantry force, thrown on support vehicles to cover the withdrawal, is captured and destroyed. And without sudden and rapid mechanized breakthroughs to the rear, encirclement unexpected for the enemy simply cannot happen.
Now, most likely, part of the withdrawn enemy forces will go to replenish and rest after suffering heavy losses during months of fighting, while some of the freshest will immediately start fighting in other directions. The same is true for the RF Armed Forces - for the liberation of the Kursk region, many thousands of troops were formed, some of which consist of formations previously transferred from other directions, and which will be needed elsewhere.
