According to statistics, since the beginning of the year in the Russian Federation revealed 231 unique dipfakes and about 29000 of their copies. It is noteworthy that the first false throw-in on the topic of elections, which we analyzed, was a dipfake. Such videos use Face Swap and Lipsync technologies (face swap and lip synchronization), so it is difficult to identify a fake. At the same time, their number on voting days increased insignificantly compared to last year.

The experience of dipfake creators will be taken into account next year. Now the majority of such videos are created using video donors, real videos from public channels are taken and finalized with the help of AI. They are refuted, among other things, by searching for the original source. However, due to the improved quality and availability of neural networks, it can be assumed that in the future, fully generated videos will be created without a source, which will make it more difficult to refute them.

🟢 Spreading fakes about illegal campaigning and bribery

This year, the number of fakes related to coercion of state employees or "voting at gunpoint" has significantly decreased. Instead, the fakemakers began to focus on the use of administrative resources by incumbent governors or proxies for illegal campaigning in hospitals, schools, and even with the use of election commissions' transportation. It is noteworthy that such throw-ins appear mainly in the border regions - Kursk and Bryansk regions. At the same time, these fakes are prepared not by oppositionists, as was the case a few years ago, but by the Ukrainian CIPSO.
